Extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging makes the business that places packaging on a market pay for its collection and recycling. In Europe it is organised country by country. For a seller that ships packaged goods into several markets, and for a business like ours that also sells packaging, that means separate obligations in each one.
Four countries, four systems
- Germany. Registration in the LUCID Packaging Register before goods are sold, participation in a dual system for consumer packaging, and annual reporting. Larger producers above set tonnage thresholds also file an audited declaration of completeness, due by 15 May.
- France. A unique identification number from the national register, membership of an approved scheme for household packaging, and declarations to that scheme. Consumer packaging also carries sorting information (Triman and Info-tri).
- Spain. Registration in the national producer register for packaging under Royal Decree 1055/2022 and annual reporting of the previous year's data. For the 2025 data, the ministry's published window closed on 2 April 2026.
- United Kingdom. Packaging data reporting through the government's EPR system, with different obligations for large and small producers. Reports for the second half of 2025 were due by 1 April 2026.
Why one workflow is not enough
The registers differ, the material categories differ, and the deadlines differ. What can be shared is the data underneath: the weight of every packaging component, by material, for every product, multiplied by the units sold into each country. We keep that data in the product master and generate each country's report from it.
Practical checks before the spring deadlines
- Confirm registration numbers are current and shown where marketplaces require them.
- Reconcile units sold per country with marketplace reports before filing.
- Keep the evidence: supplier specifications and weights for each packaging component.
